We all known Dora the Explorer the cute animated television series created by Valerie Walsh, Eric Weiner, Chris Gifford which is broadcast on Nickelodeon.
Well today Dora the Explorer is making headlines thanks to a picture that surfaced on the internet.
In the composite image witch was put together by Debbie Groben for FreakingNews.com last year Dora the Explorer can be seen with a black eye, a split lip and bleeding from the nose after being arrested.
For what crime you ask,well for “Resisting arrest while crossing the border illegally.” Back in 2009 Debbie Groben came up the idea just to win a fake news contest that FreakingNews was having but in 2010 with the heated immigration and controversial Arizona law the photo is seen under a different light.
“Dora is kind of like a blank screen onto which people can project their thoughts and feelings about Latinos,” said Erynn Masi de Casanova, a sociology professor at the University of Cincinnati. “They feel like they can say negative things because she’s only a cartoon character.”
For a decade now the Hispanic character taught millions of Latino children the English alphabet, colors and phrases in Spanish during her program so it is hard to comprehend how smiling face got in this debate.
